Proud Pet Mommy

Man, if I had a pet *anything* I wouldn't feel safe letting him run around off the leash. I hope those two cuties know to stay by you at all times. New York--burr. To many cars and accidents. You can't turn your head for a second even in Central Park or your stuff gets stolen, kidnapped, run over, trampled on.

Case in point: I was in CP last summer with a chick on a semi-date--just some psycho bimbo leading me on, in the way MN girls usually do.

So, the park is thronged with people laying on towels catching rays. Sunbathers. Listening to radios, eyes closed, zoned out. Girls in bikinis laying out getting tan.

This girl is so crazy, so full of herself, that she intrudes on a group of strangers--and asks someone out-of-the-blue to toss a football around with her. Some hunky guy obliges; they start the throws, spacing wider and wider apart.

There are people lying down, sleeping--everywhere--underfoot. Yet she is showing off her figure and can't be deterred.

Eventually, inevitably, she throws her football awry, and it lands right ON SOME GIRL'S FACE. Do you grok? The poor kid! I mean it landed with a force like a 2x4 beam being swung.

The two girls start shouting at each other. What a nightmare. The whole paddock is watching.

New York simply is not SAFE. There are too many PEOPLE.

Wherever you can find a spot to let dogs run free, I commend you, because I wouldn't set down a flea without expecting it to be snapped up by a hawk in this friggin town!

Seriously, those pooches look like they are having the time of their lives. Awesome.

Wow...that is one heck of a segue into that story...gratuitous!

But I did say I wanted to get to know you better so I asked for it =P

It seems that you don't love the city...then why stay?

Well, that story is always due for a re-telling. I still shake my head over it. Your picture reminded me, that's all.

I admit--I rant about NYC lately but I am much more tolerant than I used to be. I try not to tar everyone with the same brush so much as I used to. It's simply been a rough transition from small town to big city.

To even get to this level of equanimity, I have to really have my walls built pretty high--to block stuff out. When I arrived here, not knowing what parts of NY to filter and control and evade, I really got swamped and bogged down with it all.

Now I try to be as streamlined as can be, and sneak my way through every annoying New York day with as little drag as possible. Maintaining some semblance of normal human life. Even so, I'm still prone to griping.

I just don't belong. I think it is the most nightmarish town I've ever experienced. The way people behave; the voraciousness; the strange structure of time, space and geography; the things we have to put up with and the deeds we have to commit. The treatment I've witnessed, I mean I've been all over the world and am *shocked* at what I've seen people do to each other here.

Short answer: I'm here purely for career reasons. Thriving in that regard, yes, but pretty miserable in every other way. Thank God for my summer weekends out of town. I'd go mad otherwise.

Eventually I will exit for good, probably to a foreign country (either Asia or South America, that's where I've been happiest)

Thanks for asking, sry for the long-windedness! Sry for the 'bimbo' remark in the previous post, too.

p.s. short answer to the pizza question: round slice or sicilian slice, no toppings. If anything, I might ask for extra cheese.

But when pizza is really good, the owner knows it & the neighborhood knows it and everyone knows not to waste time by asking for toppings. A good pizza joint only does pizza one way, they're very straightforward and time-conscious.

When you bite into the right zza, you know it and your eyes roll back in your head and its like being kissed. I've found two places near me that give me that kind of 'zza and I love it. Definitely takes some of my tension off on a friday night!

You certain have your pizza preferences. Pepperoni all the way...I stand firm. mmmm.

'zza--hmm did you coin that contraction? Never seen it before.

ha ha, shortening the always-awkward 'pizza' to just
"'zza" is not a contraction I'm proud to use but it does save time and breath. I think it comes from the fraternity culture (of which I was never a part). But I have a habit of picking up phrases from people. This came from someone I pulled an all-nighter with once; at least ten years ago. So, it's not new.

Anyway, no issue here with pepperoni. It has its moments. It can often save a mediocre/average piece of 'zza.

P.s. it's always good to hear a firm opinion. God knows that describes me. . .
