D'Souza Delivers

D'Souza came out this weekend.
11:45am-5:45pm Saturday
Spent the day in the poool drinking beer and making runs to King Kullen for food.
The dogs got pushed in--damn D'souza--so he put them on some floats so they could dry off without getting disgusting from jumping around the sand.
He drove off in a huff after injuring his toe.

10:00am-9:34pm Sunday
I collected him from the Hampton Bays train station bright and early.
We drove to Babylon where his car had broken down so he could get AAA to tow it.
Spent an hour or so at the ocean beach drinking beer out of a cooler and watching white people tan.
Drove out to DuckWalk's winery in Water Mill for a tasting before they closed at 5:30pm then booked it home to grill some delicious chorizos for dinner.
Popped open some champagne and dove in the pool before warming up in the hottub--so we had to jump back in the pool to cool down.
Then I deposited him at the train station so he could head home to Jersey City.

H'mmmmm. Well. I have to hand it to him. For a guy to confront all the woebetidings you laid at his door, and follow through, each item on the list, wading right though each and every one--that's definitely something. He took it on the chin! Look at that itinerary--positively eerie! Like it was a "take 2, quiet on the set everybody!"

I'm actually not as good as he is. I have a lot of trouble trusting a girl once she spazzes out on me. Freakouts and crying jags bewilder me.

But I am pretty good at setting it all aside later.

Anyway, very glad to see you finally got the closure you wanted.

p.s. he came out two days, separately--that's four commutes! What a grind!

hey! FYI, I will be at a huge picnic in Central Park on Sat 7/26--up around the 87th st entrance, west side.

Its an international picnic. Potluck. You ought to mosey by and see if you can spot me. Plenty of hunky indian guys will be there, to take your mind of Dud'Souza!

Oh Boo! My first potential sighting of my most loyal fan and I'm to miss it. Will be in the Jerz visiting the fam--last weekend my grandparents are here before heading back to The Hind.

Plus "hunky" Indian guys--is that not an oxymoron? Also, I'm done dating brown for a bit...perhaps I'm just done dating for a bit.

heh heh. . yep, okay I'm a fan. This blog has been an added element of 'grounding' for me this past year. Keeps me distracted from my own woes.

Except when you don't post! Shame on you.

Next: say, got any ideas as to what I can bring to this picnic as my potluck? As I said, hugely international crowd--what can I do to 'wow' them?

Well, samosas will be every desis standby for this event...so I recommend going with vadapav--do you know what that is?--or an easy thing to make would be bhel puri...quick trip to the Indian store to pick up all the ingredients, slice up some onions, slap some chutney on there (wait till you get to the place to put it on or it will get soggy)...pretty good bet to go with street food for an outdoor potluck.

If you are steering clear of desi yummies, I recommend phyllos, Greek gastronomic goodness. You should be able to find some reasonably simple recipes online. They're pretty much Grecian samosas--bake instead of deep frying for a healthier treat.

Hope that helps. I'll ruminate on more hearty stuff if need be--holla!

I'm really looking forward to this gig. It's a once a year shindig. This Syrian pal of mine, he is so popular and has so many friends from work and abroad that once a year he organizes a big party just to say hang out with everyone.

THE most amazing-looking girls flock to this event. The guys play hacky-sack and toss a football around. Or a soccer ball. The girls sit on blankets chatting and networking. Dogs race around between people's legs.

The tables are laden with all sorts of dips and sauces; chips, breads, pastries, snacks, salsas, juices, sangrias, water. Treats galore. People bake and cook for days ahead of time. Samosas, sandwiches, spreads, fruits. My gosh. So many races represented, too.

As far as cooking something myself, unfortunately, I haven't got the time. Also, I can't haul a giant dish of food across town. I will just resort to picking something up from a local ethnic foodstore. Something prepared.

Anyway, thx for the tips and I am all ears for more strategies based on what I've just described. Ty Ty!

Hummus is always a delicious summer bet. Personally I'm partial to the Three Pepper kind by Sabra. Don't forget to pick up some pita bread--Athenos makes a fine Garlic variety--but given the preponderance of ladies on blankets maybe stick with Plain.

Never underestimate the power of extra extra virgin olive oil and fresh, warm bakery bread!

If you pop into Zaybar's--famed cheese shop on the UWS--you can choose from a dizzying assortment of cheeses. I'm a sucker for goat cheese with herbs and spices or smoked gouda. Surprisingly delish with a sliver of green apple; I bet it's the texture melding with the sweet/salty thing.
Paper thin slices of proscuitto which wrap nicely around a piece of cheese--perfect atop hunk of crusty bread--may still be sold there as well.

Gourmet Garage & Whole Foods should also carry all these products in one place as well. Most supermarkets likely have them but in varying quality and quantity.

I'm not much of a foodie, but hope that helps.
